This article is based on a field survey in Granada’s Zona Norte (Andalucia, Spain) between 1999 and 2006 which had as a starting point the mobilization of the district’s unemployed. The article looks at local policies adopted afterward in the areas of employment, training and social inclusion. The mechanisms that were set up are based on the definition of “target publics”. The ethnicisation of social relations and other forms of social categorization are analyzed in light of the reconfiguration of the Welfare State: decentralization, externalisation of policies to the “Third sector” and instituting social protection (from welfare to workfare). Cases of discrimination are examined according to how they came about and how they were treated

Atrial fibrillation and its determinants after radiofrequency ablation of chronic common atrial flutter

Aim. Atrial fibrillation (AFib) is a major clinical issue and its occurrence is the main problem after catheter ablation of atrial flutter. The long-term occurrence of AFib after common atrial flutter ablation is still matter of debate as it may influence the therapeutic approach. So, the aim of our study was to analyze the determinants and the time course of AFib after radiofrequency catheter ablation of chronic common atrial flutter. Methods and Results. 89 consecutive patients (67.5 ± 12.0 yrs) underwent RF ablation of chronic common atrial flutter. 38.2 % had previous history of paroxysmal AFib. 51% had no underlying structural heart disease. Over a mean follow-up of 38 ± 13 months, the occurrence rate of AFib progressively increased up to 32.9% at the end of follow-up. The median occurrence time for AFib was 8 months. AFib occurrence was significantly associated with previous AFib history (P=0.01) but not with the presence of underlying heart disease (P=n.s.). Of particular interest, in our study, AFib never occurred in patients without previous AFib history. Palpitations after chronic common atrial flutter ablation was mostly related to AFib. Conclusion. In conclusion, after chronic common atrial flutter ablation, AFib incidence progressively increased over the follow-up in all patients. Patients with prior AFib history appeared to be a very high risk group. In these patients, closer monitoring is mandatory and the persistent risk of AFib recurrences may justify prolonged anticoagulation policy

Possibility of a Double Well Potential in the Proton Bridge of Visual Pigments and Bacteriorhodopsin

The resonance Raman effect is examined in the case of vibrations which are governed by a double well potential. It is shown that in such a case the intensity of a resonance Raman line depends on three factors: the relative populations of the two wells in the . ground state and in the resonating electronic excited state and the displacement of the potential minima between the ground state and the excited state. Depending on the shapes of the potentials in the two states, the ground state populations might become unimportant as a factor determining intensities and the only observed Raman line might be due to the less populated well. It is suggested that such a situation is likely to exist for the proton bridge of the chromophore of visual pigments and bacteriorhodopsin, the Schiff bases of 11-cis and all-trans retinals respectively. This raises the question if resonance Raman spectra alone are capable of giving evidence of the extent of protonation of the chromophore in the ground state

Comparing the abundance of about fifty taxa during the decades 1900-1910 and 1960-1970 shows that the qualiy of the Insect fauna has declined in Olne, a common which however is on the list of the most beautiful villages of Wallonia

We present an improvement of Bohart (1976)’s key to the species of the genus Crabro Fabricius 1775, occurring in North and Central America. To follow there is an alphabetic list of the species with complementary distribution records and sometimes notes on their variation.
